Contra Costa judge to review arguments against Richmond rent control

The Point Richmond Business Association (PRBA) is set to host a debate on Measure L, the hotly contested rent control initiative on the November ballot, during the association’s regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 27.

The debate, which will feature qualified speakers both for and against the issue, will take place in the upstairs boardroom of the Hotel Mac at 50 Washington Ave. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., with a luncheon and presentation to take place from noon to 1 p.m.

Rob Lipton, a Point Richmond resident and spatial epidemiologist at UC Davis with a focus on violence and health inequities, will present arguments in support of Measure L.  He is also a board member for Richmond Swims, the swimming program at the Plunge, and a member of the Richmond Progressive Alliance.

Jeffrey Wright, a Richmond native and real estate agent with 37 years of experience, will present arguments against Measure L. Wright is a member of the Contra Costa County Planning Commission, president of the Richmond Museum Association and has served as the president of the West Contra Costa Association of Realtors and as a board member for the California Association of Realtors.

The cost to attend the debate is $23 for PRBA members with RSVP, $28 for non-PRBA members with RSVP, and $35 at the door.

To RSVP, contact event coordinator Linda Nigma at linda@mahays.com so that organizers know how much food to prepare. Those with dietary preferences should make organizers aware. Attendees can pay at the door with credit debit, check or cash.
