Pinole bowling event celebrates Richmond’s Soulful Softball Sunday award

After receiving a city proclamation at the Richmond City Council meeting Tuesday, organizers of Soulful Softball Sunday are heading over to Pinole Valley Lanes tonight to celebrate — and they’re inviting the community to join them.

The 2nd Annual Soulful Softball Sunday Proclamation Award Bowling Event takes place tonight at 7 p.m. at the bowling alley at 1580 Pinole Valley Road. All attendees will receive a proclamation award.

As described in city documents, Soulful Softball Sunday recently celebrated its second successful year of bringing the community together. The family-friendly game connects residents to important community resources, encourages healthy living and provides financial assistance to college-bound Richmond students. Read our story from the event, which occurred in August. And here’s a video we produced from the event:

At the Pinole bowling alley tonight, you will be seeing a lot of pink, according to Soulful Softball Sunday organizer Rodney Alamo Brown. The bowling event, which includes raffled prizes, free giveaways and a coat drive, is doubling as an ode to Breast Awareness Month, and so attendees are encouraged to wear pink.

“We’re truly honored to have former KTVU News anchorwoman Faith Fancher’s Friends of Faith Inc. supply us with bracelets and information pertaining to breast cancer,” Brown said. “In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will all wear pink and conduct a coat drive.”
