A 21-year-old man was arrested in Vallejo early Wednesday morning in connection with the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old pregnant woman in San Pablo on Monday, police said.

Luis Monje-Morales Jr. (pictured above) allegedly killed Ilaysia McCoy and her unborn child following an argument in the 1700 block of 17th Street Monday night, according to the San Pablo Police Department.

In addition to the arrest, police said a person of interest they were searching for in connection with the homicide — Luciano Rogelio Duarte — turned himself into the San Pablo Police Department at 9:30 a.m. today. He will be interviewed “and given an opportunity to provide valuable insight as to what took place leading up the actual shooting,” police said.

Police responded to the homicide scene (pictured below) at 7:51 p.m. Monday and found McCoy lying in the road with an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to a hospital, where she and her unborn child were pronounce dead.

A subsequent investigation led police to the first block of Valle Vista Avenue in Vallejo, where a search for several hours led to Monje-Morales Jr.’s arrest at an apartment.

Anyone with information related to this very tragic event is encouraged to contact the San Pablo Police Department at 510-215-3150, or the West Contra Costa Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 510-799-8255. All callers can remain anonymous.
