All eastbound lanes of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge were expected to remain closed until 6 p.m. while crews cleaned up remnants of a big-rig fire that occurred Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Drivers are being prevented from going onto eastbound Interstate Highway 580 on the Marin side.

A big-rig crashed into a guardrail and burst in flames about 8 a.m. Crews were trying to clean up the wreck, and it didn’t seem like an easy job.

“It’s a lot to deal with,” CHP spokesman Officer Andrew Barclay said. “We’re literally trying to scrape a melted vehicle off the roadway.”

The bridge did not sustain significant damage, nothing was spilled from the truck nor was anyone injured, Barclay said.
