More than 100 East Bay residents have called or emailed the East Bay Municipal Utility District about a recent change in taste to their tap water, according to the East Bay Times. The taste difference, described as “earthy,” is related to the start of a $22 million project to upgrade the Orinda Water Treatment Plant, which typically serves customers west of the Oakland hills, including in Richmond. During the Orinda plant, hundreds of thousands of customers will be supplied water from from local reservoirs set aside for disaster scenarios, rather than from the typical source: water piped in from the Pardee Reservoir in the Sierra foothills. “All delivered water continues to meet all state and federal water quality regulations,” EBMUD said in its statement.
