The area around a Pinole shopping center is actually more secure now that a local security guard is out of the job, police said.
On Sunday, Peletisara Patu, 32, of San Francisco, was arrested in Richmond on suspicion of using his position as a security guard “to covertly victimize other patrons in the area” near a shopping center located on Fitzgerald Drive in Pinole, police said.
About 2:50 a.m., Pinole police responded to a parking lot near In N Out Burger at 1417 Fitzgerald Drive on a report that a vehicle burglary had just occurred.
Arriving officers saw Patu fleeing the area in a vehicle and stopped him on Richmond Parkway near Lakeside Drive in Richmond.
Patu and his vehicle were searched and police found a stun-gun, stolen items from the auto burglary, burglary tools, narcotics, and narcotic paraphernalia, police said.
“During the investigation we learned that Patu is a contract security guard for the area where the burglary occurred and it is believed he used his position as a security guard to covertly victimize other patrons in the area,” police added.
He was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility. The case remains under investigation and anyone with information is encouraged to call the Pinole Police Department at (510) 724-8950.
