23rd Street fight turns fatal

Richmond police are searching for suspects in connection with a shooting that injured two people, including a 16-month-old boy being held in his mother’s arms Friday morning.

The incident occurred about 10:15 a.m. near Bissell Avenue and Second Street, police Lt. Felix Tan.

While responding, police learned the mother went on her own to Kaiser Permanente with her child, who was suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower body, Tan said.

Shortly thereafter, police learned a 25-year-old shooting victim had also arrived at the hospital.

Both were victims in the shooting and police believe the 25-year-old was targeted. The child, who was with his mother’s arms, was the victim of a stray bullet.

The child  was expected to be released from the hospital soon, Tan said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Richmond police Detective Dan Wellhausen at (510) 620-6860.
