Calling all teachers! Chevron’s Fuel Your School program is back

Local teachers needing extra funds to carry out educational classroom projects are encouraged to participate in the Chevron Fuel Your School Program, which has returned for a seventh straight year.

The Fuel Your School program funds projects requested by teachers on from now through Nov. 15.

To fund teacher requests, Chevron donates $1 every time customers purchase eight or more gallons of fuel at participating Chevron or Texaco stations during the month of October. This year, Fuel Your School has pledged to donate up to $6 million for teacher classroom requests in 18 U.S. communities.

Teachers can request funds for a wide variety of classroom needs. Last year, kindergarten students from Verde Elementary in North Richmond received activities for active learning, such as an I Spy Alphabet Aquarium and Phonemic Awareness Activity Tin.

“These materials will help the children to engage in lessons that offer many opportunities to master the skills needed to help prepare them for their educational careers and expand their future career opportunities,” said Jean Kintscher, Verde Elementary teacher.

Chevron is trying to fill a gap in education funding that has increasingly forced teachers to dig into their own pockets. The company is also promoting classroom projects promoting STEM education — science, technology, engineering and mathematics, which are necessary skills for jobs of the future.

“Teachers are paying more money out of their own pockets for the supplies they need to provide meaningful learning opportunities for students,” said Charles Best, founder and CEO of “Chevron has helped to fund thousands of these immersive learning projects, many that have introduced the field of STEM to numerous students, providing them with new experiences that help connect what they read to real-life applications.”

Since its inception in 2010, Chevron’s Fuel Your School program has helped fund more than 33,685 classroom projects – nearly half focusing on STEM – at 5,155 schools.

Fuel Your School program is part of Chevron’s overall support for education that has totaled over $300 million worldwide since 2013, helping to provide students with the critical skills they’ll need to succeed in the jobs of the future.
