Local students will attend three educational concerts at the Richmond Art Center over the next two months as part of a grant-funded program.
The Art Center has partnered with the award-winning Del Sol String Quartet in a residency that has been funded by a Chamber Music America grant. The grant in part aims to present K-12 students a “direct, live experience of chamber music,” according to the Art Center.
Del Sol’s three performances will target different age groups, with each show focusing on a unique approach to expression. Students will be challenged to identify parallels with the art exhibited at the center while music is being performed. They will also have the chance to make their own art.
“This particular residency highlights the stimulating impact of music on art-making as well as the concentration art-making lends to the listening of music,” the Art Center said.
The Del Sol concerts will take place Sept. 24 (for elementary students and parents); Oct. 8 (middle school students); and Oct. 22 (high school students). Further details can be found here. A $10 donation is suggested for adults attending the concert.
This Richmond Art Center is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, and this music program is just one of several related events.
