First Student, which provides bus transportation services to schools nationwide, is seeking to fill 30 open driver positions in the Richmond area for the next school year and encourages the community to attend a job fair next week.

The job fair will take place at First Student’s Richmond location at 436 Parr Blvd. from 9 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Aug. 25, according to the company.

Overall, there are 200 open driver positions across the Bay Area and 5,000 across North America.

Applicants for part-time positions will be trained, assisted in earning a Commercial Driver’s License and have opportunity for additional hours, the company said.

Prospective drivers must be at least 21 years old, able pass all background checks and drug screens and have at least three years of driving experience.

To apply, go here. But at the job fair Aug. 25, the company will conduct on-site interviews and provide snacks and drinks..

“We’re looking for friendly, responsible, hard-working individuals to join our team,” First Student Area General Manager John Olivares said in a statement. “Our drivers have the opportunity to directly impact a young person’s life. This is a special and unique opportunity. We train our drivers to be highly skilled not only in the technical aspects of operating a bus, but also the interpersonal aspects of engaging with students in a way that creates a positive experience.”

  1. Why they wait so long, this could be done in the summer when the kids were out and they would have people to start the new school years.
