After 42 years of being known for top-notch customer service, the ACE Hardware at 4920 McBryde Ave. is preparing to close.
Owners and brothers Bob and Patrick Eames, who opened the store in 1974, told the Richmond Standard they are retiring and plan to close the shop by the end of the year.
The store is holding a liquidation sale where all items are 20-percent off. Bob Eames said the brothers haven’t made a decision on what to do with the property moving forward.
The store will certainly be missed. In June, after we featured ACE Hardware in our Small Biz Boost segment, we received dozens of comments on Facebook and elsewhere from readers with nothing but nice things to say about the store and its owners.
“Lived on McBryde Ave. for years and relied on Ace, Bob and his brother for advice and service,” one said.
Another said, “Love this store! Owner and employees are so helpful and knowledgeable…Home Depot doesn’t come close to this store!”
Our favorite comment came from a romantic: “I kissed my wife for the first time in front of that store 33 years ago and counting,” a reader said.
