One dead, two injured in Richmond shooting early Wednesday

23rd Street fight turns fatal

One person was killed and two others injured following a shooting at the intersection of Marina Way South and Wright Avenue early Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred at about 12:20 a.m., when police were called to the area and found a vehicle with three occupants inside stopped at the intersection, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said.

“Of the occupants, one was deceased and the other two suffered gunshot injuries that don’t appear to be life threatening and were taken to the hospital,” Tan said.

Witnesses said a dark-colored sedan fled the scene after shots were fired.

“We do not have anyone in custody nor do we have a motive for this shooting,” Tan said.  “Detectives are still investigating this incident at this time.”

It was at least the fourth shooting in Richmond since Sunday. A shooting near Kennedy High Sunday afternoon halted a local youth football event. Another later Sunday evening injured a 27-year-old man. And another Monday evening injured a man and led to a police chase and four arrests.
