Four suspected gang members were arrested Thursday after police responded to a shots-fired call on the Richmond Greenway in the city’s Iron Triangle neighborhood, police said.

The incident unfolded about 11:45 a.m. when a ShotSpotter gun detection activation sent police to the Greenway, a pedestrian and bicycle pathway. Within minutes, two officers arrived at the scene and saw a group of five males in the immediate area. No one had been injured by the gunfire.

While two of the males fled, officers were able to chase down and detain one of them, a 16-year-old. The teen was in possession of a loaded .40 caliber Glock pistol, police said.

The other three males detained at the scene were found to be in possession of two extended magazines, a narcotics pay/owe sheet and two shaved keys used to steal cars,” police said.

All four suspects were arrested on charges related to guns and being part of a gang. The fifth suspect had been identified as of Thursday night and would soon be arrested, police said.

RPD praised its officers for showing bravery and constraint when approaching the armed individuals.
