El Cerrito police announced Tuesday a plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint Friday night but are not saying where exactly it will be held.

The checkpoint will occur from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.”at an undisclosed location within city limits,” police said. Motorists will be delayed “only momentarily” as officers evaluate them for signs of drug or alcohol impairment, the department added.

“DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence,” according to the police statement.
