College players and nonprofit give Richmond youth free baseball clinic, restore field


While Richmond youth enjoyed a free baseball clinic on July 13, their Nichol Park field was being restored as part of a charitable event hosted by the nonprofit More than a Game  and the Walnut Creek Crawdads, a summer baseball team filled with star collegiate players.

Kids from the Richmond Little League and Jr. Giants participated, with each child receiving a new Nike belt provided by Lids and an EvoShield arm sleeve.

The Crawdad players led the children in an instructional clinic, breaking them up into three teaching stations covering catching/throwing, batting and base running.

While the players were leading drills, the coaches went to work to restore the field, including clearing weeds and unwanted growth from the infield.

During closing ceremonies, each Crawdad gave out an award to a child who made an impact on them. To find out more information about More Than a Game, visit their website at
