The East Bay Soldiers youth basketball program dealt with extreme flight delays and cancellations and traffic from car accidents and road construction, but they’re still smiling following a successful tournament at the Las Vegas Convention Center last weekend.
Of the five teams with 60-plus players who traveled to Vegas, four teams placed and brought back trophies and medals, including two championships, a second-place finish and third place finish.
“It was extremely challenging getting to Vegas with the Southwest Airlines meltdown,” coaches said. “But we got the kids there and they played their butts off and represented Richmond well.”
In addition to a successful tournament, two East Bay Soldiers coaches received special training last week at the USA Basketball Youth Coaches Academy in Las Vegas.
