After inviting the community to help paint a gorgeous mural over the past five days, the result is a site to see.
A massive, colorful mural — which will soon be erected in place of an old mural at the community garden at Macdonald Avenue and Harbour Way — gleamed under the midday sun at Richmond Civic Center Plaza on Friday.
The mural was created by San Francisco-based Create Peace Project and backed by a small grant from the Richmond Arts and Culture Commission.
Ross Holzman, executive director for the Create Peace Project, says the mural’s 25 4-by-8 plywood pieces represent the various diverse cultures of Richmond’s community. It is also capped by creatively outlined silhouettes of the various volunteers involved in the project.
After taking down the old mural and erecting the new one — which is not such a simple process — a mural dedication will be held, said Alicia Gallo, outreach coordinator for the Richmond Main Street Initiative.
