Jump-rope-to-end-violence event set for Saturday at Hilltop Mall

The local resident who dreamed to hold an anti-violence jump-rope event in Richmond is about to see her vision become reality on Saturday.

As we reported last month, the first Jump-Rope-to-End-Violence, organized by Roshonda Walker, is set to take place at 10 a.m. in the parking lot at Hilltop Mall.

More than 200 people are expected to come out and jump, said Cesar Zepeda, president of the Hilltop District Homeowners & Stakeholders Association. The event is set to take place between Macy’s and Walmart. The flyer below features a map.

The event will feature will be games, competitions, raffles, and more.

Walker is following through on an idea she’s had for some time. It was partly inspired by the American Heart Association’s health-promoting Jump Rope for Heart events that would visit Walker’s school as she was growing up.

“I want to get our kids back active as well as raise awareness to the violence of our community,” Walker said.

She also quipped, “I also want to show these youngsters that old school can beat that new school.”
