A unique function on Sunday, July 17 known as “Richmond Rides! Bikes, Buses, BART & Breathing” will show cyclists how to explore the whole bay through the wonders of local transit and the popular Bay Trail.
The one-of-a-kind excursion will kick off at 9 a.m. at the Rich City Rides bike shop at 1500 Macdonald Ave. and will include a quick workshop at the Richmond BART station on using the system’s bike facilities and getting around on both BART and AC Transit while cycling. Attendees can also learn about using AC Transit’s bus racks for bikes — with a bus on hand for demonstrations. A few lucky riders can obtain free BikeLink cards, providing access to BART’s bike lockers, though they will be in limited supply.
After the short workshop, everyone’s invited to climb aboard BART for a quick ride to El Cerrito Plaza and a serene cycle along the Bay Trail and a look at the in-the-works Richmond Wellness Trail. The outing will conclude back at the Rich City Rides shop at approximately 1 p.m.
The free event was organized by Rich City Rides and the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a national group dedicated to the conversion of old railroad tracks into public walking trails. Interested cyclists can register in advance or call Yamelith Aguilar of Rails-to-Trails at (510) 992-4636 to find out more.
