Richmond residents asked to register their National Night Out block party before July 21

Richmond residents have until July 21 to register their block for the annual National Night Out Against Crime, which typically features more than 20 block parties in the city.

National Night Out, which aims to build bonds between neighbors and police officers and increase crime prevention education, will take place Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The event begins with a kick off party at the Target store parking lot at 4500 Macdonald Ave. at 5 p.m. A caravan of police personnel and citizens will then visit block parties held by residents along the way. The night will end with a party at 23rd Street at the Veterans Memorial Hall at 968 23rd St.

The parties will include food, entertainment and activities.

Richmond’s NNO is celebrating its 31st anniversary this year. Millions of people across the country turn out for National Night Out events.
