The Richmond City Council approved on Tuesday, July 5 the proposed Terminal One project, one of the community’s largest residential development projects in years. The Council voted 6-1 in favor of the project with Councilmember Eduardo Martinez the lone vote against.
The nearly 14-acre development, which is located along the bay front in Point Richmond, includes 302 condominiums and 21 detached homes. Other elements of the project include a 1.9-acre park and new bike and pedestrian paths, including a new connection to the San Francisco Bay Trail. The development will also revamp the old pier that once served as a ferry docking point.
The planned development is slated for the area to the east of Ferry Point and west of the Richmond Yacht Club. Groundbreaking could take place as early as spring 2017.
The thumbs-up from the City Council followed a June green light from the Richmond Planning Commission. The approvals came despite opposition from some of the surrounding neighbors, spearheaded by the Brickyard Cove Alliance, who have expressed concerns over issues such as environmental impact and potential traffic fallout.
