A 9-year-old shortstop from Richmond was among five local players named on Monday to the USSSA All-American team, an honor that will send him to play in Orlando, Fla. and Las Vegas.
Nikko “Bugs Bunny” Taylor is a star for the Hit & Run Baseball Academy and was named to the 9U All American team. His coaches are Twon Blake and Kevin Whitaker.
Sean Cobb of Richmond (10-under), Lincoln Dean of El Cerrito (9-under), Ronald Gay of El Cerrito (11-under), and Maximiliano Garcia of Hercules (9-under) join Taylor in making the competitive All American cut.
A team of scouts observed, graded and made selections among hundreds of players during tryouts.
It’s no wonder players like Taylor are succeeding: He’s serious about baseball.
“Baseball is life,” he told us.
On Aug 7, Taylor will play in the USSSA 2016 All American Games in Orlando, Fla. Then on Sept. 3-4, he heads to the Adidas All American Showcase Select Thirty.
The players are facing significant travel and registration expenses.
To help pay those expenses, Taylor’s supporters have launched an online fundraiser here.
