Richmond plans to beautify, add recycling top to 150 public trash bins

Richmond is calling on local artists to help update about 150 trash receptacles with mosaic art and to add a cover on each that can be used for recycling.

The city has released a request for proposal (RFP) for its project to “upcycle” the concrete trash receptacles with recycling tops and mosaic art over a two-year period.

The project is similar to a grant the city gave a few years ago to artist Daud Abdullah, who specializes in mosaic art.

trash.6-29Qualifying artists must be Richmond residents and have an art space that can accommodate community participants and no less than 10 concrete bins. The artist will be provided with all recycling tops, replacement doors and paint for the project. He or she must also exhibit proof that community members are participating in the community beautification project.

For artists interested in applying, read this RFP. It must be read and proposals must be sent in by July 7.
