Richmond dispensary to hold innaugural Community Cannabis Expo on Thursday

The Richmond-based medical marijuana dispensary, 7 Stars Holistic Healing Center, is set to hold its inaugural Community Cannabis Expo at their location at the Pacific East Mall Thursday.

The event follows a May 24 unanimous vote by Richmond City Council to offer unlimited permits for the commercial cultivation and manufacturing of medical cannabis. Mayor Tom Butt had been pushing for a marijuana cultivation permitting process to generate revenue for the city’s general fund.

The East Bay Times reported additional details about the lifting on the ban on medical marijuana cultivation today.

From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, city officials, cultivators, manufacturers, medical experts, patients and the public will come together at 3288 Pierce St., Suite M108, “in the spirit of education and collaboration as the City of Richmond embraces the medical cannabis industry,” according to a news release about the Expo.

The Expo is free and open to the public.

“It is our hope that by bringing everyone together in the same space—city officials, law enforcement, teachers, parents, growers, manufacturers, and patients—we can help to allay whatever fears our community members might have about medical cannabis and its effect on our community,” says Zee Handoush, owner of 7 Stars.

7 Stars was established in 2009.
