Jamal Rutledge is looking dapper in his new uniform.

In the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft that began June 9, the Richmond resident was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 28th round.

The right-handed shortstop most recently played for Contra Costa College. He stands 6-2 and weighs about 170 pounds and graduated from El Cerrito High School.

He deserves a huge congrats and we wish him the best of luck.

  6. Congratulations to you and your mom; from those early beginnings at Nicols Park and Tara Hills through the journeys of travel ball and high school, I have watched you grow and mature because your mom always believed in you and encouraged you . What a lesson for single moms…and your Black young men in our area; work hard; stay focused; and receive the love around you…
