Dog’s bark as effective as bite in Richmond burglary bust

A dog’s bark was as effective as its bite Wednesday, when Richmond police busted a burglar in Atchison Village.

The incident unfolded at 3:35 a.m. in the 200 block of W. Chanslor Avenue, where a resident woke up to the sounds of his dog barking, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said.

The resident had a Closed Circuit Television camera system and went to check the system. He spotted two suspects prying open compartments of his utility truck, police said.

The victim dialed 911, reporting the incident as it unfolded, and Richmond police responded while the suspects were still at the scene, inside their vehicle.

“The suspects were positively identified as the ones seen burglarizing the victim’s utility truck and arrested at the scene,” Tan said, adding the incident was a “great example of teamwork between our community, police dispatchers and the officers.”

Any suspicious vehicles or persons to the Richmond Police Department should be reported to 911 or (510) 233-1214 (non-emergency).
