It was a devastating scene at the Kaiser Permanente Richmond Medical Center Wednesday afternoon, when 29-year-old Willie Mulder Jr. who suffered fatal gunshot wounds in Rodeo was brought to the hospital.

“I went by and several nurses were out front crying hysterically,” a citizen journalist told us.

Contra Costa County sheriff’s deputies said they responded to the Rodeo shooting scene at 12:09 p.m., and while they found shell casings they were unable to locate a victim.

They were later informed that Mulder had arrived at the Richmond hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Information about the victim’s identity was not immediately available. Detectives are investigating the shooting as a homicide. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call (925) 313-2600.
