A 15-year-old Richmond boy drowned in Lake Berryessa during an outing with family and friends Sunday afternoon, a Napa County sheriff’s captain told Bay City News.

Jose Sartunino-Garcia was with family and friends at the Oak Shores day picnic area when he went swimming in a cove at Foxtail Flat, Capt. Steve Blower said. He swam well and showed no signs of distress before disappearing, his family told Blower.

About 15 minutes later, or about 4:30 p.m., the boy’s body was spotted in about 10 feet of water in the middle of the 30-foot-wide cove, Blower told BCN.

An online fundraiser has been launched for the teen’s grieving family here, which will help pay for funeral expenses from this sudden loss.

Further information wasn’t immediately available.
