The community’s chess lovers are invited to a free Richmond chess tournament on Saturday, May 21.

The tournament will take place at the Richmond Recreation Department, 3230 Macdonald Ave. Registration runs from 10:30 AM to noon on the day of the tournament, with play rounds starting at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m.

“Players of every level are welcome to play and enjoy a lively and competitive event suited for any lover of the game of chess,” said TC Ball, who runs the West Coast Chess Alliance, which is co-sponsoring the tournament alongside the Richmond Recreation Department.

The tournament will be in a quad format, 4-player at a table playing three games. The tournament will have both rated and non-rated sections. Youth will be grouped by age and playing experience. Chess sets are provided.
