The community is invited to a clean-up and mini-festival at San Pablo’s Davis Park on Saturday, June 4.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with clean-up efforts occurring during the first half of that time period and family activities during the second half.
Family activities include relay races, Zumba dancing, face painting, arts and crafts, story times by Tandem Partners in Early Learning, healthy snacks and more.
The park clean-up event is being held by the parent advocacy group West County Regional Group, which is sponsored by First 5 Contra Costa, and the city of San Pablo.
The city alongside the West County Regional Group, which includes 60 members whose advocacy has led to park improvements, has been on a mission to ensure the park is safe.
The group held a park assessment of San Pablo parks and deemed that Davis Park was plagued by dumping and trash, which made the park feel unsafe and unattractive for families.
In May 2015, the group presented its findings to the San Pablo City Council, which resulted in an investment of $450,000 by the city for improvements including new picnic tables, water fountains, BBQ grills, security cameras, and increased lighting. Family-friendly bathrooms are scheduled for next year.
