Richmond woman dies following I-580 crash

23rd Street fight turns fatal

A 25-year-old Richmond woman whose disabled car was struck by a drunken driver on Interstate Highway 580 on Tuesday has died from her injuries, according to the East Bay Times.

The newspaper identified the victim as Virgilia Nicula.

The crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. near Marina Bay Parkway, according to the California Highway Patrol. Nicula’s Honda stalled and was blocking a westbound lane. She remained seated in the car and removed her seatbelt, officials said.

That’s when Alwyn Redd, 35, of Oakland crashed into the back of the Honda with his Acura. He was also hospitalized as a result of injuries suffered in the crash, CHP said.

Redd was later determined to have been drinking before the crash and is now facing multiple related charges.
