A 25-year-old Richmond woman suffered major injuries after her disabled car was struck by a drunken driver on Interstate Highway 580 in Richmond Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. near Marina Bay Parkway, CHP said.

The woman’s Honda had stalled and was blocking a westbound lane. She had remained seated in the car and had removed her seatbelt, officials said.

Then came Alwyn Redd of Oakland, who crashed into the back of the Honda with his Acura, causing major injuries to both himself and the Richmond woman, CHP said.

Redd was later determined to have been drinking before the crash and is facing possible felony DUI charges.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the CHP at (707) 551-4200 or (510) 450-3821.
