Suspect arrested in connection with Richmond man’s murder

A 20-year-old Dixon man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting last month of Richmond resident David Mallard, the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff announced Monday.

Detectives believe Mallard, 28, was fatally shot in Richmond before being placed in Bay Point, where deputies found him and unsuccessfully attempted CPR about 9:20 p.m. on April 14, the sheriff’s office said.

Mallard was found unresponsive in the area of Driftwood Drive and Port Chicago Highway in Bay Point. He was pronounced deceased by the Fire Department at the scene.

In connection with his murder, Dixon resident Marshon Ardoin was arrested Monday, May 2, with assistance from a U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force, the sheriff’s office said. Ardoin is being held at Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $1 million bail.

A motive for the killing was not announced.
