On Friday, West Contra Costa Unified will hold the 23rd annual Nutrition, Health and Fitness Festival at Nystrom Elementary School, 230 Harbour Way South.

The event, hosted by the district’s Food Services Department, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and has been themed: “Cooking it up fresh and healthy with fruits and vegetables for wellness California Style.”

This year’s event will feature a healthy cooking segment for students, along with a gardening session on the nutritiousness and versatility of the tomato. They will be able to grow their own a tomato plant at the event.

The youth will be treated to a farmers’ market tour, where they will taste test California-grown local fruits and vegetables and learn about their nutritious value.

In addition, Fitness for Wellness events such as Disco Dancing, Farm to Table Relay, the Wheel of Nutrition and much more will promote the importance of physical activity.
