San Pablo police will conduct a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint in the westbound direction on the 2300 block of El Portal Drive.

The checkpoint will last from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., police said.

“Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20-percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely,” police said in a statement Tuesday.

The DUI checkpoints are placed in areas where accidents and DUI arrests occur frequently.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
