A memorial fundraiser for the late Richmond police Officer Gus Vegas is set for Friday at Salute E Vita Ristorante in Marina Bay, according to police.

The wine-and-appetizers event will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the waterfront restaurant located at 1900 Esplanade Way. The fundraiser is a collaboration between Salute’s owner Menbere Akilulu, Mechanics Bank and the Richmond Police Officer’s Association.

Augustine “Gus” Vegas, a veteran city police officer, was murdered at his Vallejo home during a domestic dispute on Feb. 11.

He was the sole provider for his family, which includes 10 children and 20 grandchildren and which had also run a foster care program out of their home. A gorgeous and well-attended memorial service at Richmond Memorial Auditorium on Feb. 19 showed just how important Vegas was to the community.

Vegas served the City of Richmond and it’s citizens for over 15 years and was described as a diligent and kind police officer.

“Please stop by and enjoy wine and appetizers,” organizers of Friday’s fundraiser said.
