California Castings Inc., a Richmond metal casting company located at 530 S. 11th St., has been sued by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office on allegations of illegally dumping waste in a landfill rather than an authorized hazardous waste site, along with misreporting hazardous waste, according to the East Bay Times.

Deputy district attorney Stacey Grassini told the newspaper that California Castings was apparently unaware of the illegal activity. The company had been “using a third party company to categorize its waste and was not directly involved in the mislabeling,” the newspaper reported.

Along with a $10,000 fine, workers who handle waste will have to be trained, the Times said.
