26-year-old man dead following broad-daylight shooting in Richmond

26-year-old man fatally shot on Cutting Boulevard in broad daylight

A 26-year-old man was killed in a broad daylight shooting in Richmond late Thursday afternoon, police said.

At 4:47 p.m., police responded to a ShotSpotter gun detection activation in the area of a gas station at 3701 Cutting Blvd. and found Reginald Atkinson deceased from multiple gunshot wounds, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said. He was found lying on the ground next to a car. No one else was shot or injured, Tan added.

Multiple witnesses to the police response wrote into the Richmond Standard following the incident. Some said the area was flooded with police.

“We don’t have any suspect vehicle or persons description as this case is still fresh and ongoing,” Tan said, adding, “We don’t have a motive yet.”

It was the city’s 11th homicide this year.

Anyone with any information about this incident is encouraged to contact Homicide Detective J. Wentz at (510) 621-1259.

  1. Im glad no one else was hurt. I feel that removed feeling of sadness for the victim’s friends and family.(I could hear screaming right after the shots were fired and they were horrible awful pain filled sounds). I hope that healing begins now for our community.

  2. I was at a track meet at Kennedy High when I heard this. This happened way to close to the kids, less than a half a mile away. There were four or more shots that happened in rapid succession and then sirens that followed afterwards. My deepest condolences are given out to anyone who is related the victim.

  3. I was also at the track meet at Kennedy High when the shots were fired. It’s unfortunate that students & athletes of Kennedy were able to pinpoint the exact location of the shots fired all the way from their high school. I pray for the community & the police to work TOGETHER to bring peace to a great city. There’s great people in Richmond that deserve safe streets for the all the families.

  4. this is so sad the shooting took place near my brother school and house he goes to Kennedy high school im scared everyday hat i hope i don’t get a phone call from my mother with bad/sad news

  5. Tragic. My condolences to the family and loved ones. Human life is sacred. Each person we lose is a loss to society. My prayer is for Richmond to be less and less violent.
