Little League players have clean fields thanks to Kiwanis Richmond volunteers

In honor of Kiwanis One Day on Saturday, an international day of service, members of the Kiwanis Club of Richmond helped the city spruce up the fields at Nicholl Park for the Little League teams.

Every year for Kiwanis One Day, the local chapter typically asks the city where volunteer help is needed, from planting trees to park cleanings, volunteer Sandi Genser Maack said. A past project included planting trees on medians along Cutting and Carlson boulevards.

This year, the city’s Parks and Landscaping Division cited issues with eucalyptus leaves and seeds on the Nicholl Park diamonds. With rakes and garbage bags from the city, Kiwanis members went to work.

“A big job is easier and lots more fun when everyone works together,” Genser Maack said. “And the Little League, playing on the opposite diamond,  was very excited and grateful.”
