The Fifth Annual Great Tomato Plant Sale is set to take place Saturday, April 9, with three locations in Contra Costa County.
Along with locations at Antioch and Walnut Creek, a West County sale will be held at the Richmond Public Library from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
More than 70 varieties of heirloom tomato plants and other vegetable plants will be on sale. The selections were based on the recommendations by members of the UC Master Gardener Program of Contra Costa County, which both grew and field-tested them in their own county gardens and the Walnut Creek demo garden.
“Many of our varieties are only available locally through us, impossible to find in local nurseries,” organizers said.
In addition, 30 varieties of peppers and a wide variety of eggplants and tomatillos will be available.
Plants cost $3 each (cash or check only, please!). Proceeds will support the community education work of the UC Master Gardener Program of Contra Costa County.
