A young Salesian High boys basketball team is taking a 21-game win streak to the CIF Open Division Northern regional playoffs, according the Vallejo Times-Herald.

The Pride defeated St. Patrick-St. Vincent High 64-53 in the North Coast Section Division IV championship. The team is now seeded eighth in the CIF Open tournament.

Salesian (28-4) won’t have it easy here on out. On Friday, the Pride face top-seeded De La Salle High (28-2), which defeated Monte Vista 47-29 last week in the North Coast Section Division 1 championship.

Salesian girls defeat Cardinal Newman for NCS title

The Salesian girls team defeated Cardinal Newman (Santa Rosa) 64-47, with guard Minyon Moore accounting for nearly half of her team’s offensive production with 31 points, to capture the NCS Division IV title, according to the Mercury News. Salesian reportedly relied on an aggressive perimeter defense to stop Cardinal Newman from 3-point range.

The Pride (26-5) has qualified for the CIF Open playoffs as the sixth seed. They face No. 3 Archbishop Mitty in a big test on Friday at 7 p.m.

Kennedy High boys’ impressive run continues

Kennedy High was the No. 14 seed heading into the NCS Division IV tournament, but managed to make it all the way to the semifinals, furthering a memorable season.

Kyree Jackson led Kennedy (19-13) with a game-high 24 points and Alfonso Murrie and Darius Pierce each added 11 during the Eagles’ semifinals loss to St. Patrick-St. Vincent last Wednesday.

The team’s successful season hasn’t gone unnoticed. The Eagles have qualified for the CIF Division IV tournament as the 15th seed. They play at No. 2 Central Catholic (25-5) on Wednesday, 7 p.m.

Sayeed Pridgett’s 34 points leads El Cerrito to Division 2 title

The El Cerrito High Gauchos topped Newark Memorial 70-59 Saturday to win the NCS Division 2 title, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The defending champs (20-13) enter the CIF Division 2 playoffs as the No. 2-seed and will enjoy a first-round bye.
