This alleged burglar remains in the doghouse.

During a search Thursday for burglary suspects in Discovery Bay, two of whom were identified as Richmond residents, a police K-9 found one of the alleged thieves hiding in a dog house, according to the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.

The incident unfolded about 2:40 p.m. in the 3600 block of Sailboat Drive, when a citizen reported two people breaking into a home in the area. A deputy arrived on the scene and saw two male suspects flee on foot. One of the suspects, identified as 19-year-old Marshawn Daniels of Richmond, was detained.

The other suspect, 24-year-old Cortez Barber (unknown residence) got away, but only temporarily. A neighbor reported seeing a person jump into a nearby backyard on Foghorn way, leading to a search of the area by an Antioch K-9 unit.

“While searching the backyard of a home, the K-9 found the suspect hiding in a dog house,” deputies said.

Daniels is being held without bail and was booked on charges including burglary, conspiracy, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools and a probation violation.

Barber is also being held without bail and was booked on charges of burglary, conspiracy and probation violation.

In addition, 26-year-old Richmond resident Shante Lewis was arrested in connection with the case after she was found “waiting in a car nearby,” deputies said.  She was booked on charges including burglary, conspiracy, possession of stolen property and possession of burglary tools and is being held in lieu of $230,000 bail.
All three are currently at the Martinez Detention Facility, deputies said.
