A 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 400 block of Gertrude Avenue in Richmond late Sunday morning, marking the third young person to be killed by bullets in the city in just two weeks, police said.

Police received 911 calls about the shooting and found Joshmahl Russell, a Richmond resident, at the scene suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, Richmond police Lt. Andre Hill said.

Efforts by medical personnel to revive Russell were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

“At this point in the investigation, there is no suspect information, however, the department is asking anyone with information about this homicide to contact Detective D. Wellhausen at 510-620-6860,” Hill said.

The homicide is the sixth in Richmond this year, and the third in just two weeks. On Thursday night, 15-year-old William Malik Barnes was gunned down in the 100 block of West Macdonald Avenue. A week before, 14-year-old Kenney High student Xavier McClanahan suffered the same fate on the Richmond Greenway.
