The El Cerrito Police Department released surveillance video Monday that captured a residential burglary that occurred on Feb. 18 in the 1500 block of Liberty Street, between Potrero and Gladys avenues.

The burglar struck between 3:05 p.m. and 3:35 p.m., initially knocking on the home’s front door, where a security camera had been installed, police said. After noticing no one was home, he went around to the back to gain entry, where there are no security cameras.

“He ransacked the home and left with small stolen items, money, jewelry etc.,” police said in a statement Monday. “Towards the end of the video the suspect is seen walking away from the residence.”

The suspect is described as black, possibly in his 30s, standing around 5-10 and weighing 180 pounds. Detectives are asking anyone with information, particularly those who can identify the suspect, to contact the ECPD at 510-215-4400 or
