Authorities served a search warrant in the 600 block of 39th Street in Richmond Wednesday morning, where two men were arrested in connection with a parking lot shooting near a Larkspur movie theater last week, according to the Central Marin Police Authority.

The shooting occurred about 7 p.m. on Feb. 24 in the north end of the parking lot at the Cinemark-Century movie theater in the 500 block of Larkspur Landing Circle. A 19-year-old San Pablo man was shot in the head, but his wound was not life threatening, police said.

Patrons were told to stay inside the movie theater while police searched the parking lot for suspects.

The victim and witnesses provided police with descriptions of the suspects and the vehicle they were driving. That helped Central Marin detectives identify Ivan Margarito, 19, of San Rafael, and Alexander Cunningham, 20, of Richmond, as suspects. Arrest warrants were obtained for both men.

At 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, SWAT teams served arrest warrants at the home in the 600 block of 39th Street.

“The first suspect, Margarito, immediately complied with officers’ instructions and was arrested,” police said. “The second suspect, Cunningham, armed himself with a handgun and jumped off a second floor balcony in an attempt to escape. He tried to hide in a nearby backyard, but was eventually taken into custody without any further incident.”

Both suspects were later booked at Marin County Jail on charges of attempted murder and armed robbery, police said. They are being held without bail and their first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday at 9:00 a.m.
