The Richmond-based Bay Area Rescue Mission is looking to raise $7,500 for 275 durable mattress covers to supply its roughly 250 nightly homeless clients with a clean, safe, and comfortable night’s sleep.

The nonprofit at 200 Macdonald Avenue, which provides both shelter, nutrition and life-changing services to the Bay Area’s homeless population, calls the crowdfunding drive its Spring Cleaning Mattress Covers Project.

To donate, visit the campaign page here. The campaign is open until March 31.

“We are consistently keeping the Rescue Mission clean and in good shape for 250 people who stay with us nightly,” according to the Bay Area Rescue Mission. “The staff has identified a special need that has been kept under covers until now … keeping our mattresses hygienic for the guests that come to us for a safe night’s rest. Working with those escaping the street, you are in contact with sicknesses and ailments due to being exposed to the elements and lack of access to health care. We work hard to keep the Mission clean, but this spring we see the need to go one step further by giving our mattresses an extra layer of protection with hygienic mattress covers.”
