The victim of the fatal shooting in the 100 block of West Macdonald Avenue on Thursday night has been identified by police as 15-year-old William Malik Barnes.
“RPD Homicide detectives are still working hard on following up on leads,” Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said, adding there were no updates as of 5 p.m. Friday.
Police were alerted to a ShotSpotter gunshot activation about 6 p.m., and when they arrived at the scene they found Barnes lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper torso, Richmond police Lt. Felix Tan said.
Emergency medical personnel arrived and performed life-saving measures, but Barnes succumbed to his injuries at the scene, Tan said. A preliminary investigation suggests he was on foot when he was shot.
The shooting marks Richmond’s fifth homicide of the year. It occurred one week after 14-year-old Kenney High student Xavier McClanahan was fatally shot on the Richmond Greenway.
