A bomb squad was called to a home in the 5800 block of Sutter Avenue in Richmond Thursday when a resident discovered a device while cleaning his garage, police said.

The man thought he found a smoke bomb and called police at 11:35 a.m., Richmond police Lt Andre Hill said.

Responding police called in the Walnut Creek Police Department’s bomb squad out of caution. Police removed the device from the home without evacuations.

No further information about the device was immediately available.

The home’s resident claimed he has lived there for more than 30 years and wasn’t certain where the device came from, Hill said.
