Police were searching the Richmond Greenway pedestrian and cycling pathway for a suspect who fatally shot a 14-year-old boy Monday morning.

After responding to a ShotSpotter gunshot activation at 9:23 a.m., police found the victim, later identified as Kennedy High student Xavier McClanahan, suffering multiple gunshot wounds along the Richmond Greenway just north of the 3300 block of Ohio Avenue, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was seen running from the area. A search near the BART tracks was assisted by a BART police K-9 unit, police said.

The homicide is the city’s fourth in this city in 2016.

No other information about the case was immediately available.

Witnesses reported a male running from the scene after the shooting occurred.
