A person was shot on Interstate Highway 80 near Appian Way in Pinole Sunday night, the latest in a series of shootings on the East Bay highway, according to Bay City News, citing the California Highway Patrol.

The shooting occurred in the westbound lanes about 9:30 p.m. and shut down all lanes in that direction for about an hour, according to CHP. An altercation apparently occurred on the highway during which gunfire was exchanged. The person who was shot drove on his own to a local hospital, CHP said. The suspect vehicle fled the scene, while a third vehicle that wasn’t involved in the incident pulled to the side of the road after being struck by gunfire, but no one in the car was injured.

CHP is investigating the incident and trying to locate the suspect vehicle.

CHP has not said whether the incident may be related to a spate of shootings along I-80 in the East Bay that have occurred since last year, some of which investigators believe could be connected.

Anyone with information pertinent to the incident can contact the California Highway Patrol at (800) 835-5247.

  2. I travel this route to and from work and this is getting ridiculous. Everyone I work with in San Pablo believes these shootings are related.

  3. I live off of Appian Way.. these freeway shootings are occurring too often and too close to home! More importantly they keep happening in the same area! These senseless acts need to stop.. Big Brother loves putting up cameras everywhere, why not put some here where they might actually catch these killers!?!
